New Telephone System – BULLETIN #3

This is the third advisory bulletin containing important information about SIUC's new telephone system that will be posted here. Please check back often for the latest information.

Interruption of Service - The change to the new telephone system is scheduled to occur at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2003. Telephone service may be down intermittently from 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. This interruption of service will also include dial-up services on campus, such as AIS payroll, etc.

Emergency Service – For those planning to work on campus during this interruption of service, we want to be able to provide you with access to emergency services (911), if needed. If you will be working on campus during this time, and have not already done so, please contact Telecommunications at 453-2484 to discuss arrangements for emergency telecommunications service during this brief period.

Don't Forget:

Re-Initialize Voice Mail – Each voice mail user will need to do this beginning on May 30. Instructions are available on our website. Since a large number of users will be doing this on May 30, service may be slow on that day.

Reprogram Telephones - The following features will need to be reprogrammed after May 29: autodial numbers, speed call numbers, and call forwarding (if programmed by the user).

Voice Mail Services & Features – Voice mail service offerings and features are now available on our website. Among the new features are unified messaging which allows users to view voice mail from the desktop and a remote notification feature in the standard voice mail service that will provide an email notification whenever a caller leaves a voice message.

Service Problems –If you should experience problems or encounter certain features which do not work after the change-over on May 30, please contact the Telecommunications' Customer Service Group at 453-2484.
