Residence Hall Students
Welcome to Southern Illinois University-Carbondale

What’s available in each resident hall room? . . .
There are 3 jacks installed in each room.
• The first jack has a working phone line that remains in that room all the time.  You and your roommate will share this line for voice calls or connecting to the Internet.
• The second jack is available for an optional second phone line or for dial-up internet access.  This has a $65 activation fee and a monthly charge of $13.47 per month.
• The third jack is for your optional Ethernet service, should you decide to sign up for this service which cost $57/semester.
• Note:  You are responsible for providing your own telephone instruments.  We discourage the use of cordless phones because they work poorly due to the construction of the buildings.

How do I call long distance? . . . .
We issue each student their own, confidential long distance authorization code so there will be no questions as to who made a particular phone call.  These codes may only be used in your assigned room.
Rate:       .07 cents per minute. (Good anytime, anywhere in the continental U. S. )

You may also use calling cards or call collect.

Do you want extra features on your telephone line?
We have programmed 10 Number Speed Call, Last Number Redial, and Ring Again features on all of the campus telephone lines free of charge!

We offer such features as:
*Call Waiting                    *Call Forwarding                     *3 Way Calling

What if I have a roommate? . . . .
Keep in mind, each student has their own individual account. We encourage you to speak with your roommate before choosing any extra feature because we are unable to split the cost for services. If both students sign up for the same service, the application we receive first is the one that we will bill.

What are my internet options? . . . .

How will I be billed? . . . .
Each student’s account is available for viewing on our web site, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Once you bring up our home page:

• Click on Student
• Click on On-Line Phone Bill
• Click either Find/Know Subscriber ID
• Enter your Subscriber ID Number & your Authorization Code
At this point you may view all of the charges to your son’s/daughter’s account; including long distance phone calls and other services.  This information is updated on a daily basis so a running total is available.

Note to parents:  You will need to know the student’s Authorization Code.   For obvious security reasons we cannot provide this information to you over the phone.  If your son/daughter is over the age of 18, by state law we cannot discuss any aspect of a student’s account.  Please have your son/daughter contact us if there are any questions.

All Telecommunication charges are applied directly to your Bursar’s statement.
