SIUC provides students residing in campus residence halls (Thompson Point, Brush Towers, University Hall and University Park) with options for network connections to our Campus Area Network. Once connected to the campus network, students may send electronic mail, review course materials, participate in electronic study groups, hand in papers, ask questions of their professors, and access informational resources on campus, as well as on the Internet. The following provides information concerning these options, and also the general guidelines for what students will need in order to access the Campus Area Network from the campus residence halls. Remember, these services are available only to on-campus students. 1 – Ethernet - $57 per semester/per student Ethernet provides a direct computer connection to the SIUC network and to the Internet. One Ethernet port is available in each room. Ethernet hubs may be used should more than one computer connection be needed in a single room. Modem services will utilize the telephone jack in each housing room. This preferred service offers a lower subscriber to modem ratio over the free dial-in modem service. If you have any questions configuring your computer, please call the Computer Support Center at 453-5155. You may also sign-up for this service by visiting the Telecommunications Office located in Room 127E of the Student Center or calling them at 453-2484. 3 – Free Dial-In Modem Service Internet access through the free 56 kbps modem pool is available to all students, faculty, and staff members --- free of charge.
