About PIN Numbers
For Students: Salukinet
Your PIN number is used to access your records, registration, and Bursar information in Salukinet. New students from Spring 2003 and onward were assigned a PIN by Admissions and Records, which was sent to you by US Postal Service mail.
New Students
Newly enrolled students should receive a six digit PIN number. The default PIN is usually formed from your date of birth, MMDDYY.
Example: Laura's birthday is June 9th, 1990. His PIN number would therefore be 060990.
Note if you were born in the first nine (9) months or days of the month, add a ZERO (0) to the beginning of the PIN to make it six (6) digits long.
Returning Students
Returning students should use the last PIN number they used while being active as a student here at SIUC. If you have forgotten your PIN number please either visit Records and Registration or stop by the Computer Support Center for assistance with your PIN number.
I changed my PIN
You may have changed your PIN in Salukinet. This change applies universally to every application (such as ResNet signup for residence hall ethernet access) that calls for your PIN number. We recommend that all students change their PIN number at least once, to help ensure security of your records. More frequent changes (once a year, once a semester) would of course be better, but please change it at least once, after you receive it and log on for the first time. Choose a number that is easy for you to remember but hard for outsiders to guess.
Please note that currently there is up to a 24 hour wait time after changing your PIN until the new PIN takes affect. During this time it is highly advised not to try to access the "My Records" section in SalukiNet as this may cause your PIN to get locked out for bad attempts. If this does happen you will have to visit Admissions and Records to have them unlock your PIN.
I forgot my PIN
If you forget your PIN number, you must contact the Records Office. If you are in the Carbondale area, go to the Records and Registration office in A Wing of Woody Hall to verify your identity and confirm your PIN change request. If you are out of town, you will need to contact the Records and Registration office at 618-453-2974 for instructions on verifying your identity and receiving a new PIN. Note: For new students, prior to starting your first semester but after you have registered and been accepted for admission, simply contact Records and Registration at the number above. Explain that you have misplaced or forgotten your default PIN, and ask that they reset it and send the acceptance letter to you a second time.
For Faculty & Staff
Your PIN number was assigned by Human Resources. The default PIN is formed from your date of birth, MMDDYY*.
Example: Joe's birthday is July 4th, 1950. His PIN number would therefore be 070450.
Note if you were born in the first nine (9) months or days of the month, add a ZERO (0) to the beginning of the PIN to make it six (6) digits long.
Faculty and Staff may not change their PIN numbers.
* - If you were previously a student, or employeed by SIUC previously there is a chance your PIN is your old 4 digit PIN. This was generally in the form of DDYY of the date of birth, but could be something different if you had been a student at one time and changed your PIN number. In these cases please stop by the Computer Support Center for assistance with your PIN number.
