Microsoft Vista Free Dial-Up Instructions

Introduction

The free dial-up bank is available for general use by students, staff and faculty associated with SIUC who need access to the campus network or Internet and have a valid Network ID.

The purpose of this document is to guide you through the setup of a SIUC dial-up account on a computer running Windows Vista.

Getting Started

1. Go to the Control Panel from the Start Menu (Figure 1).

2. Click on "Network and Internet".

3. Click on "Network and Sharing Center" (Figure 3).

4. Click on "Set up a connection or network" under Tasks (Figure 4).

5. Select "Set up a dial-up connection" (Figure 5).

6. Use the following configuration settings (Figure 6).

• Dial-up phone number: 4532888
• User name: Your Network ID
• Password: Your Network ID password
• Connection Name: SIUC

Note: Check the "Remember this password" box if you would like Windows to remember your password

7. Click "Create".

You have now created a dial-up connection to SIUC's modem bank.  You may now access the internet through this connection.
