Microsoft Outlook 2003 LDAP Address Book Instructions
Introduction The SIUC LDAP address book allows you to search through a directory of all SIUC accounts. To access it, you must first configure your Outlook to use IMAP. After you have done so, follow these instructions:Getting Started
- Go to Tools | E-mail Accounts.... (Figure 1).

- Select Add a new directory of address book and click Next (Figure 2).

- Select the Internet Directory Service (LDAP) option and click Next (Figure 3).

- Under Server Name: type mfsweb.it.siu.edu and click on the More Settings button (Figure 4).

- In the settings window, under the Connection tab, the display name is mfsweb.it.siu.edu (Can be changed to anything you want) and the Port number is 636, and check the "Use Secure Sockets Layer" box (Figure 5).

- Now under the Search tab in the Search Options section, the Search Base you must input is o=siu, c=us (Figure 6).

- Click Next and Finish to complete your configuration.
Using your LDAP Address Book
- You can begin searching for SIUC E-mail addresses by locating and clicking on the Address book icon in the toolbar as shown below (Figure 1).

- Your address book will appear in a new window. To perform a search, select the Find Items icon in the toobar. Do not search by typing directly into the box labeled "Type Name or Select from List", you will use this option later. Make sure that the SIUC LDAP is selected as showin image (Figure 2).

- In the Find window, your best bet is to search by first and/or last name of the SIUC member whose e-mail address you wish to locate. The results will display all names that contain the characters you specified (Figure 3).
For example, searching for first name "Bob" will display all addresses under the name Bob, as well as similar names such as "Bobby" or "Bobbie". You can even search by the person's first and/or last initials, however it is advisable to be more specific to narrow down your search. Click OK, and your search results will be listed in the directory. If your search yields more than 100 results, an alert window will appear, informing you that only the first 100 will be listed.

- To select which addresses your would like to add to your Outlook contact list, You can type the person's name into the box provided and the results will automatically highlight the closest match. You can also scroll through the list and select a name by clicking on it (Figure 4).
If you would like to select more than one of the e-mail addresses on the list and add them all at the same time, simply hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click on each name you would like to select. Your selections will appear highlighted as shown above.

- Now click on the "Add Contact" icon in the toolbar (Figure 5).
A Contact window will appear that allows you to input any other information you would like to store about that individual such as phone numbers and other personal details. When you have finished updating this window, (this is optional - you don't need to fill out all the information to continue) simply close it and your contact will appear as an address card in Outlook under the Contacts option in the menu on the left.Figure 5: Add Contacts
- Now you are ready to build up your address book and send e-mail messages throughout the SIUC community using Microsoft Outlook..
