How to FTP Your Files
First You Must Have the Program WS_FTP 32
You can download the program wsftp32.exe from the SIU FTP Server.
The instructions for how to download and install wsftp32 are here. Note that the instructions work for Windows 98 and ME as well as Windows 95.
You will also need to make a folder to store you files in
Open My Documents Folder.
Click on the "File" pull down menu located at the top left of the window. Click on the "New" option, chose "Folder" by clicking on it.
Call it Folder A, Folder A is where you should put all your web files. Click "OK".
RUN WS_FTP
Double click on the WS_FTP shortcut. (This opens the "Session Profile" window, seen below.).
Click New (to clear the fields of the window and prepare to enter your new profile information.)
Enter your information as in the example, using your Network ID in the User ID field.
Enter your password.
Click on Save. (This will save this profile information for your next FTP session. When you access FTP again, look for the Profile Name you typed on the pop down list.)
Click OK.
You will now see two windows. The window on the left represents your local PC or desktop, while the window on the right shows your folder on the remote host or FTP server. (The files listed when you run the FTP program will be the files you have on your computer rather than the empty folder you see in the example.) Navigate to the local folder where you have stored your web pages, highlight a file, and click the arrow buttons between the windows to move them across the network to or from the remote server. You will see them appear in the window as they are copied from your system to the FTP host. Remember: your Web page must be titled index.html on the FTP host for it to be displayed at the website.
Opening your page on the web
Open your browser and type the address "http://www.mypage.siu.edu/YOUR_network_ID_HERE with your Network ID in the place of YOUR_network_ID_HERE. Your browser should be displaying your web page, which is called index.html
