Computer Support CenterHousing Internet Access
SIUC provides students residing in campus resident halls (Thompson Point, Brush Towers, and University Park) with options for network connections to our Campus Area Network. Once connected to the campus network, students may send electronic mail, review course materials, participate in electronic study groups, hand in papers, ask questions of their professors, and access informational resources on campus as well as on the Internet. SIUC Network Access AgreementIt also provides general guidelines for what you will need in order to access the Campus Area Network from the campus residence halls.EthernetEthernet provides a direct computer connection to the SIUC network and to the Internet at speeds up to thirty times faster than most 28.8 Kbps modems. There is a $45 per semester charge for this service. Instructions are available for configuring both Macintosh computers and Intel based computers running Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT.One Ethernet port is available in each room. Four port hubs may be used should more than one computer connection be needed in a single room. To connect your computer to the network, you will need:
Preferred Campus Internet ServiceDial-in modem services supporting speeds up to 56Kbps are also available for students. There is a $35 per semester fee for this service. Modem services support PPP protocol. Instructions are available for configuring both Macintosh computers and Intel based computers running Winsows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT.Modem services will utilize the telephone voice jack in each housing room. Additional voice circuits are available for a one time $35 installation fee and $13.47 per month. To connect your computer to the network, you will need:
