Microsoft System Configuration Center [SCCM]
IT has implemented Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007. SCCM includes Windows and 3rd party updates, application deployment, inventory, and remote control. It also can include OS deployment, which is not setup for certain customizations that a department might want yet. Third party update patching includes Java, Quicktime, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Adobe AIR, and Firefox.
IT creates those packages with Department Admins having the choice of IT or the Department Admin pushing out the packages. A department admin could also learn to push out other packages and updates. SCCM will help lessen the amount of duplicated work on campus. SCCM also includes remote control tools. A Department Admin has full control of the collection of computers that make up their department. There will be even more benefits when we migrate to SCCM 2012 next year.
